How to evaluate

What a bulk medical grade honey vendor must show.

  1. Botanical attestation — leptosperin, Leptospermum DNA or pollen on the COA, not just "Manuka" on the label.
  2. MGO assay by HPLC — with retention against the labelled value, ideally with a stability curve.
  3. Sterility — gamma irradiation to SAL 10⁻⁶, dose validated under ISO 11137 (VDmax₂₅).
  4. Bioburden — pre-sterilisation bioburden measured under ISO 11737-1.
  5. Residues — tutin, glyphosate, C4-sugar screens against export-market limits.
  6. Quality system — ISO 13485, with audit-ready batch records and chain of custody.
