Manuka honey
Manuka is the most studied therapeutic honey in the world. Produced from the nectar of Leptospermum scoparium, its hallmark is non-peroxide antibacterial activity driven by methylglyoxal (MGO).
Activity profile
MGO — non-peroxide activity
Activity is quantified through MGO (mg/kg), with leptosperin and DHA used as authenticity and stability markers. It is stable to heat and gamma sterilisation, making Manuka the reference variety for advanced wound care dressings and sterile medical devices.
